The import wizard: drop a file and check it reconciles
The import wizard takes an accounting export, works out what it is, and shows you a reconciliation before anything touches your books.
Nothing posts until the file balances and you confirm.
Open All pages in the left sidebar, then under Setup click Import wizard.
Import a file
- Drag your file onto the box, or click it to browse.
- Wait while it uploads and the format is detected.
- Check the preview.
- Click Import into this workspace.
A General Ledger export from QuickBooks (Online or Desktop) or from Wave works best. CSV and XLSX are both fine, up to 200 MB.

Read the preview before you confirm
The preview is the whole point of this screen. It shows:
- Accounts and Transactions found in the file.
- The date range, From and To.
- A green bar reading Reconciles: debits = credits, with the control total.

If the file does not reconcile, the bar turns red and says nothing will be imported. The confirm button stays disabled. That is deliberate: an unbalanced file would put numbers on your books that never tie back to your old system.
Warnings appear in amber. They are worth reading but do not block the import.
After it runs
You get a count of the journal entries loaded. Then check your Balance sheet and Trial balance against the same reports in your old system.
Good to know:
- Re-importing the same QuickBooks or Wave general ledger replaces the previous one rather than adding to it, so a second run does not double your books.
- A plain bank CSV is a different job. Use Import a CSV under Setup for that.
- Import into a fresh workspace where you can. It makes the comparison against your old reports much easier to read.
