Connect your bank account

Connect a US bank or credit card so BooksGPT imports and categorizes your transactions for you. The connection is read-only, so BooksGPT can see your transactions but can never move money.

1. Open All pages in the left sidebar, then under Daily work click Banking. This opens your Connected accounts page.
2. Click Connect a bank (top right).
3. Search for your bank, or click a popular tile. You can pick any of 12,000+ US banks and credit unions.

4. Choose how far back to import: Last 90 days (the fastest), 6 months, or a custom start date. Most banks share about 6 months of history.
5. A secure window opens. Sign in to your bank and choose which accounts to connect.
6. Back in BooksGPT, your accounts are mapped to your books automatically.
7. Choose Just import to categorize them yourself, or Import + AI categorize to let BooksGPT categorize as they arrive.

Your accounts then sync automatically every day. To refresh sooner, click the re-sync icon next to an account.

Good to know:

• Supported account types are checking, savings, and credit cards. US banks only.
• The tiles are shortcuts, not the whole list. If your bank is not on one, search for it. See "My bank is not supported, or will not connect".
• Cards are listed by the bank that issues them. If you cannot find a store or brand card, search for the issuing bank's name.
• If a bank will not connect, import a statement instead: open All pages, then under Setup click Import a CSV. For a full migration, see "Switch from Wave or QuickBooks".
