Reconcile your books and how transfers auto-match
Reconciling confirms your books match the bank statement to the penny. BooksGPT also pairs transfers between your own accounts automatically, so they never inflate income or expenses.
Reconcile against a bank statement:
- Open All pages in the left sidebar, then under Accounting click Reconcile.
- Pick the account. Enter the Statement ending balance and Statement ending date from your bank statement, then click Start reconciling. The beginning balance fills in on its own from your last reconciliation.
- Check off each transaction that appears on the statement. The Difference at the top updates as you go.
- Doing a catch-up? Click Clear all to check the whole statement in one click, or use the checkbox at the top of the checkmark column. Clicking again unchecks everything.
- When the difference reaches zero, click Finish now.

Every checkmark saves as you go, so you can leave and come back anytime.
Good to know:
- You can add a service charge or interest earned on the setup screen.
- Made a mistake? Undo the newest finished statement from the history list on the Reconcile page.
- On the Transactions page, turn on Show reconciled to see a green R on every reconciled row. Reconciled rows are locked so a finished statement cannot drift.
Transfers pair automatically:
- When both sides are connected, like a credit card payment leaving checking and arriving on the card, BooksGPT pairs them, marks both as a transfer, and keeps them out of income and expenses.
- When only one side is connected, the category picker suggests the matching Transfer to option for you to confirm.
- To undo a pairing, open the transaction's details and click Un-match transfer. Both sides return to To review.
